sity is not considering restoration
options.

er options," Millman said.

Clean-up participants also
seemed hopeful about the peti
tion that a group of tenants filed
with the Eugene Historical
Review Board requesting that
Amazon be declared a historical
site. If the request is granted,
demolition will be delayed while
the buildings' historical signifi
cance is documented.
The buildings ore all that
remains of Vanport, a temporary
World War II era c ity that was
located near Portland, and were
moved to Eugene in 1947 to
house returning war veterans. At
the time. University offic ials
planned to tear down the build
ings after 10 years.
