KWVA He said he wants to see the station put on com erts by high
profile bands that (to not normally stop in Eugene
Drew said he does not want to compete with local venues, but
wants to fill a niche in the < (immunity and have more all-age shows
"We have great hands coming through, but nobody gets to see
them." he said
KWVA. with an active staff of nearly 80. is one of the newest sta
tions in the nation, and this marks its first major reshaping since
going on the air May 27
' It was started by people who pretty much built it from the ground
up, Pierson said
Many of them had no experience at other stations, and Pierson sug
gested the structures they fontied wore based more on invention than
on procedures standard in the radio business
With the changes. Pierson hopes to structure KWVA like nearly all
other radio stations and create a more ai curate training ground for
students.
The torch of leadership has essentially been passed from the first
generation, that fought long and hard to get on the air, down to the
sis and, that wants to see the station grow and expand. Drew said.
"I think everyone has realized this new system is I letter." Paranjpe
said "Everything was OK before the new guys came in, but it is bet
ter now."
Pierson hopes students will be involved in shaping the station.
"I'm always available to talk to anybody who has questions and
concerns." he said
