The Oregon cross-country
teams will have the opportunity
to show off a little for the home
town folks when they host the
Jeff Drenth Memorial at Alton
Baker Park in Eugene Saturday.
The women's squad, after fin
ishing second to top-ranked
Arkansas two weeks ago at the
Duck Notebook
Sundodger Invitational, have
moved up to the seventh spot in
the national rankings Oregon's
toughest competition should
come from ISth-rnnked Nebras
ka. but other strong teams
include Wake Forest, Weber
State and Pacific 10 Conference
rivals Washington.
Men's coach Bill Dellinger has
only run his top team once this
season, but was pleased with the
team's performance at the high
ly-competitive Mountain West
Classic Karl Keskn just missed
cracking the top 20. and Tracy
Hollister and Rick Cantwell
managed to finish in the top SO.
This weekend. Oregon will
need strong performances from
those three if it expects to move
up from its current ranking of
14th in the national poll Tenth

mitment from one of the top

coac h Steve Hebert said Mike
Carson, a 6-foot-11 center is
planning to enroll at Oregon
next fall Carson, who was voted
one of the top 10 center recruits
in the nation by one publication,
chose Oregon over Utah. Utah
State and Penn State after visit
ing luigene over the weekend.

dedicated student as well, scor
ing 990 on the SAT.
Because of NCAA recruiting
regulations. Oregon head coach
Jerry Green is not allowed to
comment on Carson.
The Oregon women's golf
team continued its strong play,
shooting 305 in the final round
to finish in a tie for third at the
Ihlandfeldt Invitational Wednes
day in Redmond. Wash.
The Ducks who are ranked
ninth in the country shot 918 as
a team, putting them behind
only San Jose State and Stan
ford. who are tied for tliird in
notion. Oregon beat Oklahoma,
also tied for tJiird in the nation,
and seventh-ranked Arizona.
karlv Mills led the Ducks
with an 11-over-par 227 for the
three-round event, putting her
in 11th place. Teammates Shan
non Hare and Cappy Mack also
continued their steady play, fin
ishing one shot behind Mills in
a tie for 18th place.
