New golf head coach already part of family By Andrew Scales f& Jhe Offfcv> D*V £rr#>tiki Lara Mack was named the new head coach of the women s golf team during the off-season The script, however, for the 1993 women's golf team reads more like a family tree than a ros ter of coaches and players. That 's because Mack, assuming her first ever coaching position, replaces her sister. Renee Baumgartner "Renee really enjoyed her job." said Mack."and I now under stand why. I am lucky to have this opportunity." Baumgartner headed to USC to take over the Trojans' women's golf team. In addition to replacing one sis ter, Mack will coach Cappy Mack, another sister "I'm very excited about the opportunity to coach Cappv." said Mack. "1 might expect more from her because she is my sis ter, but I try to bo her coach on the golf course and her sister off the links." Mack, a member of the Arizona golf team from 19H4-8H. brings All-America credentials and lofty goals. As an All-American at Arizona, Mack led the Wildcats to two NCAA tournament bids. As a coach, she hopes to lead her team to the top of the Pacific-10 Con ference. "We finished fourth in the Pac 10 last year," said Mack. "This year we want to finish in the top three. And we would like to improve on lost year’s NCAA per formance by finishing in the top 10." Last year, the Ducks finished 17th in the national tournament, which will lie played at the Ore gon Golf Club this year. The Ducks took the first step toward improvement when they finished eighth at the Oregon Fall Preview last week, a tournament that brings the nation's top teams together at that year's site for the NCAA Championships. Last year she made it to the finals of the Ore gon Amatuer Championship.
