Runners take third, sixth in meets

Oregon's Melody Fairchild
had a disappointing follow-up
to last week's second-place fin
ish in the Pier Park Invitational,

Wareham rounded out the
Ducks' scoring, finishing 45th.
For the men. Oregon's top fin
isher was Karl Keska. who took
22nd Even with a low top fin
isher. the most disappointing
aspect of the meet was that the
Ducks had only three runners in
the top 50 — Keska, Tracy Hol
lister. who t(5ok 47th, and Rick
Cantwell, who finished 49th.
The other scorers for Oregon
were Scott Nicholas (55th) and
John Dimoff (62nd).
Brigham Young won the
men's team title, placing four
runners in the top 25 to finish
with 60 points, well ahead of
second-place Virginia Tech
(117) The Reebok Aggies took
third with 142. followed by
Michigan (146) and Idaho State
(1471.
On the positive side for Ore
gon. the Ducks managed to fin
ish above Par-It) foes Washing
ton State and Arizona. The
Cougars finished in seventh
with 214. and the Wildcats took
ninth with 243.
The Ducks will get into the
heart of the season next week
end when the men will partici
pate in the Willamette Invita
tional in Salem and the women
will travel to Seattle for the Sun
dodger Invitational.
