Pistons,
Bulls fined
for fiaht
NEW YORK (AP) — Darrell
Walker of the Chicago Bulls was
suspended for one game and
fined $10,000 on Wednesday,
and Bill laimbeer of the Detroit
Pistons — the third disciplinary
action against him this season —
was fined $12,000 because of a
bench-clearing scuffle.
The Bulls’ Scott Williams was
fined $6,000 for taking part in
the incident Monday night,
when the Bulls beat Detroit 98
95.
The fines and Walker’s sus
pension were announced by
Rod Thorn, the NBA’s vice pres
ident for operations.
Walker was suspended for
leaving the bench while not in
uniform and attempting to fight
Laimbeer after Williams and
Laimbeer tangled with 5:05 left
in the second quarter.
"1 didn't like Laimbeer as a
teammate when I was over
there." Walker, a Piston last sea
son. said Wednesday. "But I
don't believe in violence even
against people I don't like. I
didn't throw a punch. I don't
think 1 would have. But maybe
Mark saved me a little more
money."
Walker was referring to former
teammate Mark Aguirre, who
held him back.
Walker is on the injured list
with a strained lower back, und
his suspension will be served
after his return to the lineup.
Laimbeer was fined for pre
cipitating the incident by slap
ping Williams in the face.
Williams, who hit Laimbeer in
the head with an open palm,
was fined for retaliating.
"I wasn't going to take that
from him. You have to stand up
for yourself,” Williams said. "I
thought the fines are steep.
Obviously, I’m pleased that
Laimbeer's fine was more "
Both players received ejec
tions. which carry an additional
fine of $250 each
"I'm not surprised.” laimbeer
said "I knew what would hap
pen as soon as the incident took
place. In the NBA's manual on
violence. Page One and Article
One is 'When in doubt, fine
Laimbeer heavily.'
"1 just look at the fines as the
price of doing business. It's like
paying graft."
