Men’s golf in fourth;
tennis gets 18th win
The Oregon men’s golf loom is in fourth place after 36 holes of the
Southwestern Intercollegiate Invitational in West lake Village. Calif.
faff Lyons shot an opening-round 70 and followed it with a 71. fin
ishing Monday at HI to place him fifth in the tournament, highest
among the Ducks
Arizona State leads the tournament with a 566. Colorado is in sec
ond at 561. and California is third with a 562. The Ducks are in
fourth place, three shots behind Cal.
Colorado’s Scott Peterson leads the tournament after back-to-back
6Hs and is five shots ahead of Lyons.
The Oregon dub crew team placed well during the weekend.
The women placed fifth in a preliminary heat at the San Diego
Crew Classic but came Inn k to take first in the third heat of the finals,
edging Sacramento State bv two-tenths of a second.
The men competed in the Husky Invite and took second in both
the varsity lightweight race ami the novic e openweight race. In the
lightweight ra< e. the Due ks finished only three seconds behind first
place Pacific Lutheran, and in the openweight division. Oregon fin
ished within two seconds of first place and behind Seattle Pacific..
Hoth teams will compote this weekend in the Corvallis Invite on
the Willamette River.
The women's tennis team improved its res ord to 1H-4 after sweep
ing St Mary s ti-o Monday at the 1 5th Avenue courts.
The Duc ks did not lose a single set. and Krissv Barger and Kara
Voshida both won their mate lies ti t). 6-0 The doubles matches were
