back-to-back three-pointers But
the Ducks pressured Stanford
with a half-court trap and scored
the final five points of the half to
cut the lead to 41-39 at halftime,
"Our half-court trap worked
well,” said Green. ' It got us
back in the game "
Oregon forward Aaron John
son said the defense the Ducks
used is not one they use often.
"We've run the defense in
practice a lot," he said. "But we
haven't used it much in games I
think it worked real well for us
tonight and helped us stay in the
game in the first half.'
Orlando Williams opened the
second half with a three-pointer
of his own to give Oregon a 42
41 lead. From there, the Ducks
only briefly lost the lead twice,
and hung onto a slim lead for
much of the second half.
Oregon built its biggest lead of
the game after Aaron Johnson —
who scored 16 point, 12 in the
first half — made two free
throws to give the Ducks a 62-56
advantage with 9:15 remaining
Stanford cut the lead to 65-63
with 6:45 left, but two throe
pointers by Williams and
Antoine Stoudamiro pushed the
Ducks' lead back up to 71-65 at
the five minute mark.
Oregon held a five point lead
after two Jeff Potter free throws,
but again, the Cardinal got with
in two when forward Brent
Williams scored and was fouled
on a questionable blocking call
But that was the last time Stan
ford would score for the remain
der of the game.
Johnson and Potter played
well inside, combining for 2H
points and 13 rebounds. Green
said he was especially pleased
with Potter's 12 point, seven
rebound effort.
"1 was pleased to see Jeff get
some good numbers," he said.
"I've been telling Jeff he needs
to start putting up numbers. It's
one thing to play 35 minutes of
solid basketball, but eventually.
