Blown jam; good intentions
••From the

On*' dunk can change the
entire flow of a basket
ball game
Although it's worth the same
amount of points as two free
throws an easy lav-in or a goal
tending i all, n good jam can
swing the momentum in a
team's favor faster than anything
ids*; in the game of basketball
A missed jam can have the
same results in the opposite
direction
)ust ask Scott Haskin. whose
missed dunk at the horn actual
ly lost the game (or Oregon State
in last season's Cavil War game
at McArthur Court
Oregon's Orlando Williams
returned the favor Saturday
night when he missed an easy
dunk midway through the first
quarter
The missed jam summed up
the (.iv 11 War game between the
two struggling Oregon schools
The fans in attendance won't
soon forget Oregon's two of 20
shooting in the first h til. Oregon
State's Brent Barrs '.iking an
open-handed swipe at a Due k
fan in the front row, the Beavers
Charles M( Kinnev frying to kick
the referee after being celled for
a foul, or Jerry Green getting his
first technical foul at Mai Court
It was simply an ugly game
But Williams' miss is the one
play that likely stands out in the
minds of all who were in atten
dance.

Orlando Williams went for broke on this jam In the Civil War. The dunk
— much like Oregon's season — didn't quite go as planned.
When Williams stole the hall
from | I) Vetter, the Mat: Court
crowd rose to its feet in antici
pation. Williams was all alone
on a breakaway, and everyone
knew he w as KolllK for the jam.
The B-foot guard look off into
the air. pumped the hall to the
left and then threw the hall hard
off the rim.
