Oregon Daily Emerald Sports ASU overpowers Ducks 77-63 By Steve Mims Emerald Sports Reporter Arizona Slate's inside game was loo much for the Oregon women's basketball team on Thursday night, as the Sun Dev ils defeated the Ducks 77-63 at McArthur Court Arizona State's front line combined to score 43 points and grab 28 rebounds, compared to 33 points and nine rebounds for the Ducks front line. Forward Monique Ambers led the Sun Devils with 20 points, followed by Jovonne Smith with 16 points. Arizona State's center I.isa Salsman pulled down 11 rebounds, while Ambers and Smith had nine and eight rebounds, respectively. Oregon's interior defense suf fered in the first half when Deb bie Sport ich picked up two fouls in the first five minutes and finished the half with no points and one rebound. Sporci ch came on strong in the second half, scoring 19 points to lead the Ducks. Missy Slowell was the only other Duck who scored in double figures, as she fin ished with 12 points. The Sun Devils opened the game with a 9-2 run and they did not relinouish it all night. Arizona State led by as many as 12 points in the opening half, before the Ducks cut the lead to 30-26 with 2:02 remaining in the half. "We weren't as sharp as we needed to bo. said Oregon head coach Elwin Homy who picked up a rare technical foul in the first half.
