Melde was a prep teammate of another top Oregon State re cruit, quarterback Adrian Woodson, who led Temple High School to the Texas state 5A championship last season and was a first-team all-state se lection by the Texas Sports Writers Association. As a senior, he rushed for 697 yards and averaged fi t yards per carry and completed KU of 266 passes for 2,291 yards and 13 touchdowns. Bumpus was a three year starter at option quarter back at Oxnard and was re cruited by Colorado, Arizona State and San Diego State. Oregon State signed three ju nior college players — Packy Ena. a 6-1, 265-pound tight end front Snow College in Utah; Justin Moore, a 6-H. 250-pound tight end from Mount San Ja cinto College in California; and Datanyen Myers, a 6-2, 280 pound defensive lineman from Grand Rapids Community Col lege in Michigan.
