After a mediocre season last
year, the Heavers' tie of Arizona
was simply not that big of a
deal (except in Corvallis, of
tnurse)
Since that fateful day at Park
er Stadium. Arizona has had a
miraculous season The Wild
cats are the only team in the na
tion to have played two No. 1
ranked teams this season and
have held the two teams to a
combined 11 points
After tying the Beavers. Ari
zona went to Miami and losl by
one point to the Hurricanes.
hollowing a victory over
UCLA, the 'Cats pulled another
upset, this time over Stanford
in Palo Alto. Next came victo
ries over Cal and New Mexico
State and. finally, the upset
over the Huskies
Arizona has never been to a
Rose Bowl, and, thanks to Ore
gon State, it won't !>e going tills
year either.
The only hope Arizona has of
creeping into the Rose Bowl is
if the Huskies somehow lose to
(ahem) Oregon State or the
Cougars Arizona should have
no trouble handling Cal and _
Arizona State and should get a^T"1*
howl bid on New Year's Day■
But there's no doubt the Wild
cats realize where they could
have been if it weren't for those
pesky Beavs
Washington plays the Bea
vers this weekend in Seattle,
and the Huskies should give
the Beavers a great big thank
you hug before they tear the
overmatched team apart.
