Ducks, Bears try to stay in bowl hunt

California and Oregon were two
very different teams

Despite the losses of quarterback
Mike Pawlawski and head coach
Bruce Snyder, the Golden Bears
were ranked as high as IHth in the
pre-season polls
Oregon was coming off a disap
pointing 1-fl season and were
picked bv many to finish us low as
ninth in the Pacific-10 Conference
But with three games left this sea
son. the two teams have found one
thing in common; their records
The Ducks and the Bears have
identic at records — 4 -t overall and
2-1 in the Pac-10 and will meet
Saturday at Autzen Stadium in a 1
game that will be a possible first
step toward a bowl appearance for
the winner.

are at Arizona State and at home

Bears will not be afraid to throw the
ball with quarterback Dave Barr and
receiver Sean Dawkins
"They have an outstanding
offense," Brooks said "They can
throw the ball, and they can ob\ i
ously run the ball."
Dawkins is one of the top
receivers in the conference and is a
definite big-play athlete.
"Dawkins is the type of player
who can really hurt you," Brooks
said "We need to control Cal's run
ning game so we can put two guys
on Dawkins You have input two of
our receivers together to equal as
many pass catches as he's had "
