Ghouls, goblins, and Richard Nixon’
No, this list is no! an association
game, it is merely a sampling ol the
hundreds of masks available to party-goers
this Halloween
Chuck Leach, owner of the Cha^pro Fami
ly Fun Shop on 13th Avenue and Patterson
Street, daims his store offers more than 100
different masks to choose from.
"Political masks are a little hotter this year,
obviously," Leach said. "It's funny, because
even though this is a liberal-minded commu
nity, the conservative masks seem to sell the
best
"I guess the liberals just like to wear the
masks to make fun of all the conservatives."
he said
With a selection ranging from Ronald Rea
gan to Jesse Jackson to George and Barbara
Bush, students are able to express them
selves across almost the entire political spec
trum.
Most of the political masks are in the $15
to $30 price range However, perhaps reflec
tive of his Persian Gulf War defeat, a Saddam
Hussein model can be nabbed for less than
$10.
Of course, the Fun Shop also provides a
complete assortment of the usual Halloween
characters,
"Old men and old women masks always
sell well," Leach said "And werewolf masks
and their variations usually go fast
In addition, the shop has a collection of
Star Wars characters and a wide assortment
of horror movie monsters.
If $30 is too much for your Halloween
budget, though, lesser-priced outfits are easy
to find Most convenience stores offer paints
and hats when the end of October comes
around, and a simple costume can be made
for only $10
"You can do a good job for $10 to $15,"
Leach said "With a wig, a half-mask and a lit
tle makeup, anything is possible '
Leach said most students go with a wig
and varous special effects, ranging from bul
let holes to brooms, for their costumes
And if time and money are a serous prob
lem. the ever popular Zorro mask is available
for less than $5
Chazpro also has a number of complete
costumes for frantic shoppers.
Most ot the costumes go for about $25."
Leach said “I'm surprised the fraternities h3

fits, in the tradition of Animal House and all

l«ach said sales of masks, costumes,
wigs and the rest of the Halloween gadgetry
have been about average this year, although
he is expecting a big rush as Halloween
draws near
‘ Well be open until 7 pm on Friday and
Saturday, although if someone doesn't have
a costume by then, they're probably going to
be in trouble," Leach said with a laugh
