The Renegade Saints, a reincarnated version
of Nine Days Wonder and Mission District, is
having a tape release parts tonight at John
Henry's

Former Nine Davs Wonder members Dave
C!oey (bass, vocals) and Mike Walker (organ,
piano) joined fort es with former Mission
District's Matt Reynolds (drums), John Slope
(guitar. vo» als) and Alan Torihe (guitar' V« ais)
to create this electrifying combination of skilled
musicians
Their first recording as a band, tie- new tape
features 0(1 minutes of original tunes as testimo
ny to the hand s prolific songwriting. A lirni

With four songwriters. The Saints < ouldn t
help hut end up with a tape that shows off their
diversity
One cut. Know Bv Now. was recorded at the
University’s Folk Festival last spring The tape
also includes The Deep End. a song about
Edgar Allan Poe's famous lust words ("God have
mercy on my poor soul."). This song portrays
the band's mellower acoustic side.
"Playing electric is our primary focus, but
jamming acoustically freshens things up.
Walker said.
"We re really happy with the tape because
everyone in the hand had something to do with
putting it together," Shipe said.
It's more fun and more rewarding emotional
ly that way. Reynolds added.
However, at times the hand was overly per
fectionist it:
We were comparing our $500 tape to
SI00,000 CDs, hut all we really need to do is
maintain our artistic integrity, Shipe said.
This demo tape is only .1 hint of what is yet to

The Renegade Saints pay tribute to all types
of music, exploring the culture and emphasiz
ing variety Their repertoire defies the bound
aries of genre and includes over 100 originals.
This Eugene hand is becoming popular at a
rate they didn't expect
Since they made their dehut at the WOW Hall
las! January, they have already had gigs with
The Terraplanes, Uncle Chester, Peter Wilde
and Boh Dylan, among others.
The hand has recently signed up with Proton
Productions, a hig-time booking agency
It's all starting to come together. Now we
have the time and mental attitude to be more
creative," Coev said.
The Saints an; in the midst of a 2(i-day tour
throughout the Pacific Northwest. After
tonight's show, they will take off until their per
formance at the WOW Hall with Little Women
and The Aquarium Rescue Unit on Halloween.
