Oregon assistant does it all

Officially. Zoumboukos is an
uvsisiant head coach and offen
sive line coach for thn Duck
football team, but ho docs
much more than that Me over
sees the team's travel, budgets
and walk-on program, as well
as his now job supervising the
maintenance and operations
staff.
"When coach Brooks became
athletic director, he asked me
to take some additional duties,"
ZoumlHiukos said "1 told him I
would hulp him in any way
possible My new role is basi
cally to bo the complaint cen
ter When there are differences
within thi; operations of our fa
cilities, I will try to settle
them."
"Neal Zoumboukos Is natu
rally aware of who is using our
various facilities on a day-lo
dav basis and possesses out
standing administrative skills
from lasing my assistant head
coach," Brooks said. "He is
able to observe what the needs
are firsthand."
Two years ugo Brooks elevat
ed Zoumboukos to assistant
head coach - a role that re
quires him to set up the team’s
travel schedule and budget,
among other things
"I take care of the budget and
travel for the team.”
Zoumboukos said. "This en
ables coach Brooks to look after
the student-athlete instead of
worrying about where, the pa
per clips are."
When he finally gets around
to coaching. Zoumboukos says
ho is happy with the way his
ofTonsivo lino is coming togeth
er.
"I am pleased with the play
of the lino," Zoumboukos said.
"They.have made progress each
week and with five of our final
six games against ranked teams,
they will need to continue to
get bettor."
Zoumboukos graduated from
the University of Callfornla-Da
vis and began his coaching ca
reer there as well. After a year
at Davis, the coach went to the
University of San Francisco for
three years, where ho was of
fensive and defensive coordina
tor a! different times.
After leaving San Francisco,
Zoumboukos returned to his
alma mater. During his seven
years there, the Mustangs won
the conference title every year
and were ranked No. 1 in Divi

Thompson
honored
once again
Orugon kicker Tommy
Thompson has been named
Pacific-10 Conference spo
ciul teams Player of the
Week for the second time in
three weeks.
Thompson received the
honor for his performance
ugainst Arizona State on Sat
urday. Thompson scored
more than half of Oregon's
points in its 30-20 victory
over the Sun Devils.
Thompson hit five of six
field gouls and an extra
point for u 16-point total.
Against Texas Tech.
Thompson received the
same honor after kicking
three field goals in the
Ducks' 16-13 win over the
Red Raiders.
Thompson, who is also
Oregon's punter and kickoff
man. has now hit 9 of 15
field guals on the year.
