found on KAVF radio's Sunday
morning call-in talk show Rob
erts co-hosts the show with
Don Bishoff, a man who in
spires laughs or hatred — lately
depending on how you feel
about the Eugene City Council

battle, mostly with himself.
“Early in April (KAVE co
owner) Eric Altermun called me
and said, 'Mow'd you like to do
a two-hour talk show on Sun
day morning?' " Bishoff said. "I
said, 'absolutely not.' "
Bishoff has worked for 32
years as a writer for the local
newspaper hut had no experi
ence in radio.
"It was something 1 wasn’t
sure I'd be comfortable with,”
he said, adding that the 50-hour

sons for his immediate lack of
interest. But that initlul reluc
tant* slowly turned into curios
ity about exploring a new med
ium.
"The more I thought about
it,” Blshoff wild, "it was, 'Hell,
I'm 55 years old. I'm in the twi
light years of a newspaper ca
reer. Why not try something
different?' "
But there was another obsta
cle to overcome on Bishoff's
road to radio — potential con
flicts of interest with his col
umnist job at liugene's daily.
“No one at the paper had
over done anything quite like
this," he said. "Pat Yack, the
managing editor, was real good
about taking those issues hoad
