Duncan McDonald, arguably the University School of Jour nalism's most well-known and toughest teacher. has both en tertained and frustrated stu dents for 14 years This month he'll become tho deputy director and chief oper ating officer for The Freedom Forum Media Studies Center at Columbia University. Working under the vice pres ident of The Freedom Forum, hvorette Dennis, who was tho dean of the School of Journal ism In the early IMOs, he'll oversee a staff of 30 and a budget seven times the journal ism school's budget. "Think big stuff.” McDonald said. "It's an opportunity to bring people together in a very fertile, intellectual environ ment." The "think tank" is one of the most prestigious in tho country. It produces about 30 publications each year. The advisory board is packed with big names including Ann Compton, Tom Drokuw and Walter Cronkito.
