Thomas himself made no
comment on the allegations by
Anita Hill. The allegations were

The University of Oklahoma
law professor told the Judiciary
Committee last month that
Thomas had detailed scenes
from pornographic movies to
her when she worked in the
early 1900s as his legal assis
tant at the Department of Edu
cation and the Equal Employ
ment Opportunity Commission,
ii( lording to a source familiar
with tin; allegations
Ms Hill told the committee
that Thomas had asked her out
and when she refused, began to
describe his sexual interests
and the pornographic scenes,
but he never tout hed her. the
source said
"I felt .is though 1 did not
have a choice, that the pressure
was such that 1 was going to
have to submit to that pressure
in order to continue getting
good assignments, being able to
work and be comfortable in the
work environment," Ms Hill
said in an interview with Na
tional Public Radio.
The committee did not dis
close Ms Hill's allegations pub
licly before sending Thomas'
nomination to the full Senate
late last month without recom
mendation The committee told
the White House of the accusa
tions and a two-dav MU inquiry
ensued
While Thomas maintained
his silence, the White House is
sued a statement saying it had
"reviewed the (FBI) report and
determined that the allegation
was unfounded

mently qualified to serve on the
Supreme Court and expects
him to he confirmed prompt
ly."
A Senate vote is si heduled
for Tuesday and a majority of
senators have indicated their
support for Thomas

that Ms Hill "first contai ted
the Senate Judiciary Committee
on Thursday Sept 12 and in
sisted that her allegations re
mam confidential, that her
name not lie used and that the
nominee not he apprised of her
allegations Not until Monday,
Sept 211, and several phone
calls later, did Ms Hill notify
the committee that she would
allow an I'HI investigation of
her allegations

The bomb apparently was made out of a paper
container stuffed with gunpowder. There were no
suspects but police were investigating
Fraternity member Damon Carlisle said he
walked over to retrieve his bike from in front of a
living room window shortly after 2 a m when he
saw something burning on a bench just outside
"Me told me to come over and look at it." said
fraternity President Jon Tschotter "Then he real
ized it was a fuse and he jerked me bar k just to
the edge of the curtain, fun kilv neither of us w ere
in front of the window."
