ODE: Over the past levs
Years, there's been talk of set
ting up an athletic department
hoard of directors. Do you
think that will happen this
year?
IVV: I've been talking a lot to
(Assistant Athletic Director)
Sands Walton We just got fin
ished with the (AD) contract
and in it she promised that, if
need be, a student from our of
fice would fie a liaison between
our office and ihu athletic de
partment and that if they had
any meetings that we would be
given ample notice in order to
attend
JB: One of the things that
we've realized recently is that
there's the Student Athletes
Board and the ASIJO needs to
work with it With the Cas
anova Center being built and
now functioning, student ath
letes are going to lie even mom
isolated from the campus than
they already are They're not
part of the campus population
They are hut they're not, in that
all their needs are met awov
from the student population so
it's reallv hard to reach that
group of people
The reason for setting up the
Student Athletes Board is to
work with students on that is
sue so what we need to do is
pul energy and time into gel
ling out and talking to student
athletes The ASIJO is cur

basically entail something like

bit easier.’
JoSonja Watson
JB: A lot of the time, when
student athletes lose their eligi
bility or .ire no longer able to
play, they go into a severe de
pression. because that's their
outlet, that's a lot of their rea
son for being here
IW: This program would
help them find people on cam
pus to help them with classes,
figure out how to finish school,
just get on with life in general

see this ending?
JB: The ASUO is dealing
with the complaint. 1 have
pulled inyscdf off of the investi
gation due to a very obvious
conflict of interest.
JW: Same for me.
(Bills and Watson wore both
IFC members last year.)
(B: Bobby Lee, the affirma

care of it and I have delegated
my role to Wendy Curran, who

know they've been looking into
it. They’re looking into a varie
ty of options as to iiow they'll
go about the Investigation
I know that when the Consti

spring term that the ASUO has
ttie right and the responsibility
to do an investigation, the
ASUO took that very seriously
