Oregon survives scare from last-place Huskies

Oregon is currently the hot
test team in the Pacific-10 Con
ference. but the Ducks wen*
hardly breathing fire Saturday
against Washington
The Huskies, 3-10 in the Par
10 and 12-11 overall, lost their
sixth consecutive conference
game, a 07-04 decision to Ore
gon at McArthur Court, giving
the Ducks their fourth consecu
tive win in the Pac-10.
Combined with a Washing
ton State loss at Oregon State,
the Ducks. 7-5 in the Pac-10
and 12-10 overall, and the Hea
vers moved into second place
in the league, two games Ire
hind first-place Arizona.
Vet. figure this out: In the
first half. Oregon shot 52 per
cent from the field and Wash
ington hit only 20 percent of its
shots; the Ducks were 5-ot-ll
from three-point land to the
Huskies' 2-of-H performance
Oregon led by as many as 15 in
the half and was up 10 at the
intermission, hut won by only
three.
Hut a mark in the victory col
umn is still a win. and that's
what counts. Oregon Coach
Don Monson said
"1 don't want to take away
anything from winning because
our players did what they had
to do: win the ball game,"
Monson said "The name ol the
game is winning it "

three. 41-38, on Tom Caviezel's

fortunately for Oregon, it was
the Huskies' closest whiff of
the Ducks until the final score
