Ducks’ record 3-5 at Arizona Softball Classic
Oregon's so ft twill team won
three of five games Friday and
Saturday as action continuer! at
the Arizona Softball Classic in
Tucson.
The Ducks advanced to Sun
day’s quarterfinals and a date
with top-ranked UCLA, but
game results were unavailable
at press time.
Oregon got into the quarterfi
nals with a 12-5 win over Pacif
ic Saturday after losing earlier
in th« day to l-ong Beach Stale.

Freshman Rachelle Taylor
improved her tournament and
season record to 3-0 with a win
against Pacific. The Ducks gave
Taylor good offensive support
with three runs in each of the
first three innings
Juniors Anna Poore and Kim
Manning led the offensive out
burst against the Tigers Poore
had three hits and knocked in
three runs while Manning had
two hits and scored three runs
Kirst baseman Julie Cav
anaugh was one of the few
bright spots for the Ducks
against Long Beach State.
(Cavanaugh was four-for-four
at the plate, but the Ducks man
aged only two runs despite 11
hits. Poor fielding once again
cost Oregon, as it had five er
rors.
Oregon pitcher Katie Wiese
continued to struggle in the
tournament After losing to Ari
zona State Thursday, she
picked up the win in relief of a
10-4 victory over Minnesota
Friday day. but then dropped a
t>-2 decision to Fullerton State
later on Friday and also suf
fered the loss against l.ong
lleach State
After the loss to Fullerton
State, the Ducks got back on
track with Taylor blanking Dal
State Norlhridge 4-0.
Taylor allowed only five hits
in the win and Manning again
was the spark offensively, drill
ing a solo home run. Manning
also clubbed a homer against
Fullerton State.
In the win over Minnesota,
junior transfer Marnie McCall.
Oregon's starting centerfielder.
went three-for-three at the plate
and scored four runs.
