•( )ur goal is to go tx'vnml rides to events and festivals. Mason
said "Wo hope to make lane County as bin for mountain hikers as
Moah. Utah and Crested Hutto. Colo. The potential is great because
we have everything from coastal rain forest to desert "
The money for the new edition will come from the I .a no County
Tourism Promotion Program, funded by a county-wide tax on ho
tels. motels and lied and breakfasts
In addition to the money to the Outdoor Program, the county
commissioners granted another $10,000 to a private firm for the
prodm lion of a seven-minute mountain hiking video that will help
promote the guide book
"There's not much money in the general fund this year to pro
mote outdoor a< tivities. and the room-tax money can only be spent
to promote tourism When they're tied together like this. I think
it's .1 natural," said bine (bounty Commissioner Steve (lornacc hia,
who sirpported the grants

•The ABA has given us an
extension until June so if we
were going to take any action
(the University) has to do it
now." he said
The ( uts come at a time
when the school has received
over 2.200 applications for ad
mittance. the highest number
in the history of the school
With the cuts, only 90 to 125
students will Im* admitted to the
school in the* fall This com
pares to 180 students who were
admitted last foil
The quality of the school is
not expected to be affected and
Brand said complaints from the
ABA have been in terms of fi
nancial support and not quality
of education.
The s< bool lias improved its
revenue sources during the last
biennium in several ways, in
cluding the addition of a re
source fee to the tuition first -
year law students pay and in
creasing private fund raising
totals by 20 percent.
Brand said that in light of the
reduced enrollment level the
resource fee may have to fie re
evaluated He also praised stu
dents across the state for their
work in bringing the effects of
Measure 5 to the attention of
legislators.
