Oregon takes game, season series from OSU

During three heartbreaking
Civil War losses last season.
Oregon appeared to be knock
ing on the door for hoop su
premacy in the state. In
Wednesday night's 8H-6B tri
umph over Oregon State at
McArthur Court, they broke it
down.
Richard l.ucas started fast
and helped the Ducks to a
36-29 halftime lead with 12
points and five rebounds in the
opening stanza, and when Ter
rell Brandon came out smoking
after the intermission, Oregon
(5-5 in the Pac-tO. 10-10 over
all) cruised to its second win of
the year against Oregon State
for the first time since 1977-78

the field for the game, includ
ing four monster dunks that got
the crowd and his teammates

"Mv mentality is that if I get
the ball. I'm going to try and
dunk it," Lucas said
Hrandon knocked home 22 ol
his game-high 32 points in the
second half to pace the Ducks,
and for the second consecutive
game, he had plenty of help.
"It was another really com
plete effort defensively and of
fensively." Monson said as his
team moved into a four-way tie
for third place in the confer
ence.

night. Lucas and Bob Fife made
sure that wouldn't happen
again.
Lucas finished with 20 points
and 11 rebounds, in his final
Civil War contest, while Fife
chipped in with 14 boards as
the pair helped give Oregon a
43-29 rebounding edge, and
help quiet Beaver players who
said after the last game that Or
egon didn't know how to block
out on the boards.
"All tin? talk that went on af
ter the last game, we took it
personally." Lucas said, "and
we decided we'd do our talking
on the court."
"Rebounding is what hurt
us," Anderson said, "but it
was really 'cause we couldn't
stop them."

force it a little,” Monson said.
"I just told him to let the game
come to him."
Hrandon was back within a
minute, and for the rest of the
evening, the game belonged to
the point guard and the Ducks.
"When they needed a hoop.
