Monday, Jan. 21 UO Martin Luther King, Jr. Conference The Martin Luther King, Jr. Conference is a whole-day event honoring the civil rights leader. It begins at 9:30 a m. and continues until evening. Also on Saturday, a World Beat Dance Con cert at 7 p.m. will be opened by the local Eugene band, Moretime, followed by music from the Balafon Marimba Ensemble. The World Beat Dance Concert is one of the few events during the celebration that charges an admission fee. Tickets are at the door for Uni versity students, $6 for the general public, and $2 lor children age 10 and under. On Sunday, a fellowship in the Willamette Hall Atrium will feature a speech about King by Dr. Quintard Taylor, a history professor at Uni versity. During the fellowship there will l>e gospel music and discussion of King’s life. "It’s going to be a fun time as well as a spiritual time," Pearl Hill, director of Upward Bound and a member of MLKCC, said. "It will be an oppor tunity for the greater community to share with the University community." To round out the week of celebration, Mon day, Jan. 21 will be devoted to a conference for the community and students to learn about a wide selection of subjects. There will be almost 20 sessions to choose from, all described inside the calendar listing the week’s events. Child care and sign language will be provided at the conference, when necessary.
