Both the Beavers and Ducks
are 2-0 after the first week of
Pacific-10 Conference action
with the two schools sweeping
California and Stanford.
While Oregon State has won
24 of the past 27 Civil War
games, Oregon beat the Beavers

game the Ducks led wire-to

To beat the Beavers -again,
the Ducks must handle Oregon
State's full-court pressure de
fense. said Oregon Coach Don
Monson.
"We did a good job in the
other game against the press
even though we had 22 turn
overs," Monson said. "Once
we get in the half court area the
thing is to go straight to the
f>asket. We can't stand around
and make casual passes."
Oregon State Coach Jimmy
Anderson called the loss in
Portland a "miserable game"
by his team.
“We have to do everything
bettor than we did in the first
game," he said. "I know Ore
gon feels confident that they
can l>eat us as a result of beat
ing us in Portland."
With the Beavers playing at
home in the 2:l)H p.m. game,
Anderson called it a ‘‘must
win" game for his team
"You go back to the same old
recipe, you win at home and
scramble and try and split on
the road, and this is what gets
you into the upper echelon ol
the conference." he said.
Munson, whose last win at
Hill Coliseum came in 1986.
didn't say it was a must-win for
the Ducks, but an important
game if Oregon. 7-5 overall,
wants to be invited to post-sea
son play.
"For us. the end of the year
record makes a big difference."
he said
