Oregon quarterbac k Bill Mus
grave received perhaps the
most prestigious award of his
college career track in Decem
ber la-fore the Ducks played in
the Dec. 29 Freedom Howl
game.
Musgrave. who had earlier
been named to the District VIII
GTE Academic All American
football team, was named as
the NGAA Division I-A Aca
demic All-American of the
Year.
The award is annually given
to a student athlete who "best
represents the qualities of .in
Ai ddernic All Amerii an by bal
ancing the- many elements of
the life of a student athlete "
The si hold's all-time leading
passer and Oregon's winning
est quarterback ever. Musgrave
had ii 3 4(> grade point average
entering (all term and graduat
ed in December with a degree
in finance.
The Academic All-American
teams art- selected by a vote of
1,600 college sports informa
tion directors across the coun
try A student-athlete must
maintain at least a 3.2 CPA on
a 4.00 scale to be eligible for
the award.
Musgrave was named to the
Distric t VIII team on Nov. 2H
along with teammates Andy
Conner (junior outside line
backer) and Hud Bowie (junior
offensive guard). Those three
players also were named to the
Pacific-10 Conference All-Aca
demic team that was released
last Friday.

will participate in three post
season senior all-star games.
Musgrave and split end Joe
Keitzug will play in the japan
Bowl this Saturday and Mus
grave will then go to Hawaii for
the Hula Bowl (|an. 19). Mus
grave and teammate Peter
Brantley will also be in the
East-West Shrine Game Jan. 20
in Palo Alto. Calif.
Brantley, who missed the
Freedom Bowl because of a
strained left knee, will also
play in the Senior Bowl on Jan.
19. He was originally sched
uled to join Musgrave and
Keitzug in the Japan Bowl, but
team doctors didn't believe
Brantley's knee would be ready
for him to play in that game.
Two other Oregon football
players received honorable
mention recognition on the
Pac-10 All-Academic team.
Junior outside linebacker
Doug Douglass and junior of
fensive guard Mike Keeter both
were hunored by the confer
ence. Douglass also received
the honor last season and has a
3.00 CPA in general science
while Keeter has a 3.08 GPA in
marketing
