"We didn't have what you'd call a home field advantage. "Our crowd has become more vocal, larger as well as vocal, and I think that gives us a better advantage at home now." he said. Brooks said despite losing seven straight at home to the Bruins, he doesn't believe in jinxes. "They've had (letter football teams for the most part than we have had during that stretch." Brooks said. "I think it's been a thing where UCLA was clearly the dominant footlwll team "Sometimes those streaks have to end and ! just ns soon it end this year, but if not this year. I'm sure it will end some where in the future." he said The Ducks had their best chant e of ending that streak two years ago before an ABC TV national audience, but Bri an Brown broke a 69-vard run late in the game to lead the Bruins to a 16-6 win Oregon was without quarter back Bill Musgrave that game, but the Duck defense held down UCLA's Troy Aikmen powered offense all day until they were burned on Brown's big play. Brooks isn't looking forward to again facing Brown, now a senior, especially after he has rushed for more than 100 yards in four of UCLA's last five games. "I think Brian Brown is a very good instinctive runner," Brooks said. "I think he's a big play kind of a back." The Bruins are coming in at 3-2 in Pacific-10 Conference play and 4-4 overall, and al though it isn't the same UCLA team that went to eight straight bowl games between 1981 and 1988 and won seven of them over that span, it is a much bet ter team than the one that was 3-7-1 a year ago Pholu bt S««n PuUon Strung safety Rory Dairy will be playing his final game at Aut/.en Stadium Saturday when Oregon hosts UCIA in a 1 p.m. start. A bin reason for that has been the re-emergence of Drown .inti tfie play of redshirt freshman Tommy Maddox at quarter hack. Maddox is second to Mus grave in the I’ai 1(1 in total of fense and has thrown lor 1,702 yards and nine touchdowns "Maddox is just a tremen dous talent," Brooks said "He's got great arm speed, he has real good mobility, (and) he's running the option ex tremely well "I think lie's one of the lies! quarterbacks in the nation even right now." lie said, "and cer tainly in the next three years lie's going to he a dominating far tor lor I'(!l.A."' The Ducks, however, have other things to worry about tie sides Brown and Maddox. At 2-2 in the Pac-1() and t>-2 overall, the Ducks are now in a three game slretc h drive that could have them playing in back-to-back bowl games for the first time in school history Three wins would allow Ore gon to choose from several bowls, and a nine-win season would be the first since 194H It's also the last home game for 22 seniors, although flank ers Tony llargain and Michael Turn to PREVIEW, Page 11 to PROBABLE STARTERS OFFENSE SE—6 Joe Reitzug <5 10. 170.
