Soccer team drops two matches
Oregon's Club Sports men's
soccer team dropped two of
three matches in the past week,
but closed with a 3-1 win over
Southern Oregon State College
on Sunday.
Oregon lost its big game of
the year Oct. 24 to Oregon State
in (Corvallis by a 5-0 score.
Qxirdinalor Ansel Kvans said
Oregon State was already a
much-improved team a few
years ago and their perfor
mance now is "three times bet
ter than last year." Despite the
score. Evans was pleased with
his team's defense
"OSU dominated the game
with quickness, aggression and
good passing." kvans said
"(We had) .excellent goalie
work by |ohn Footman and a
good defensive effort."
Oregon traveled to Bend last
Saturday and lost to Central Or
egon Community College by a
score of 3-2 despite goals from
Sam Maccarrone and Skip
Weintraub.
But the team rebounded Sun
day against Southern Oregon:
that win boosted their season
record to 7-2-1.
Weintraub added another
goal and an assist in the victo
ry. and Evans and josh Sisco
also kicked in a goal. Cliff Oe
Groot also had an assist in the
victory.
Oregon returns to action Sun
day when it hosts the Universi
ty of Idaho at the Southbank
Field at 11 a m.

The (dub Sports hockey team
opens collegiate play Saturday
when they host the University
of Washington at Ijine County
Ice at 6 p.m.
Oregon opened its season last
weekend with a 5-1 exhibition
loss to the Eugene Blues, with
defenseman Mark Liebert scor
ing Oregon's only goal.
Saturday's match with Wash
ington is Oregon's first full
contact game after playing the
Blues last Saturday.
This will be the second sea
son that Oregon has had a Club
Sports hockey team after coach
Scott Brown founded the team
a year ago.
Brown has six returning
players with Kurt Giesler ex
pected to play a leading role for
Oregon. Liebert. a freshman, is
also expected to have a big im
pact on this year's team. Brown
said.
