After Utah State win,
Ducks ready for UW

To the casual observer. Ore
gon's 52-7 thrashing of Utah
State was just another victory,
but the win meant much more
to the Ducks.
After a huge win last week
end over highly-ranked Brig
ham Young, the Ducks forced
themselves to concentrate on
lowly Utah State and avoided
the temptation of looking ahead
to their showdown with Wash
ington this Saturday.
"I'm very pleased with the
play of our team," Oregon
Coach Rich Brooks said.
"We might not have been as
up for this game as we were for
BYU." Duck defensive end
Matt LaBounty said, "but we
were definitely not looking
ahead.”
The Ducks recovered a fum
ble on the opening kickoff and
never looked back on their way
to racking up 508 yards of total
offense and scoring more than
50 points for the second time
this season.
In addition to avoiding a let
down, the Ducks survived the
weekend with only one serious
injury. Besides a knee injury to
freshman tailback Howard
Blackwell and a few bumps and
bruises, the Ducks escaped the
weekend unscathed.
