Ducks crack Top 25
with victory over BYU
Oregon's football team broke
into this week's Associated
Press Top 25 poll after beating
Brigham Young 32-16 Saturday
, at Autzen Stadium
The Ducks had received only
10 votes last week after losing
to Arizona, but upset the then
fourth-ranked Cougars to crack
the Top 25 at No. 22 this week
This is the seventh time in
the last four seasons that Coach
Rich Brooks' team has been in
the AP poll.
Ijtst season Oregon was
ranked 22nd after beating Iowa
in the second game of the sea
son and later 23rd after beating
Arizona 16-10. Before the AP
poll expanded from 20 to 25
teams last year, the Ducks were
ranked in the Top 20 three
times during the 108H season
and once during the 1087 cam
paign
BYU dropped from the Top
10 after its loss to the Ducks,
falling to No. 11 and ending
three consecutive weeks of be
ing in the Top 10.
Notre Dame retained its No 1
ranking this week while Flori
da State was again second.
Three Pacific-10 Conference
teams besides the Ducks also
were in the Top 25.
USC moved up from 18th to
15th after beating Ohio State
while Washington fell from
12th to 17th after losing to Col
orado. Arizona was also in the
poll, checking in at No. 25.
