where he was Time bureau
chief During his two years in
the Middle East, he also re
ported from Beirut and areas
inside Iraq during the Iran Iraq
War
Although he called the dan
gers he encountered in the
Middle East part of the risks
of the trade," Drozdiak said
his experiences there involved

Shortly after tensions be
tween Iraq and Iran exploded
into full-scale war in 1980.
Drozdiak was assigned to re
port on the conflict from the
southern front in Basra. Iraq
