Kentucky Rose is a tradi
tional bluegrass band repre

band features twin fiddles and
powerful vocal blends
While most of the band s
repertoire draws from Monroe
classics, they also include
original material, country
songs from the 30s and '40s
and tunes by bluegrass men
tors Lester Flatt and Earl
Scruggs The band has played
at numerous shows in the Wil
lamette Valley, including the
Eugene Celebration in Octo
ber 1988
John A v e r 111 began playing
bluegrass mandolin in the
1960s while living in Califor
nia In the early 1970s Avenll
moved to Eugene and formed
th<• band Good N Country
which played widely from
1973 to 1988 Sue AveriU's
bass playing, seasoned over
14 years has an infectious
rhythm and powerful bounce
David Bersch who bought
his first guitar when he was
14 has a voice and choral mu
sic degree from the Universi
ty Since 1981, he has sung in
the chorus of the Oregon
Bach Festival.
