The music of The Swing
Beans has been described as
a tasty brand of bluegrass
swing.
The group's cassette re
lease "Groovin' in the Gar
den" blends such classics as
"Caberet," "Satin Doll," and
Mr. Sandman'' with clever
originals done in the swing
style.
The band features three vo
calists with the instrumenta
tion of violin, mandolin, guitar
and bass
Balafon Marimba Ensemble
The nine members of
Balafon Marimba Ensemble
are dedicated to sharing their
style ot African, Latin Ameri
can and Caribbean music
The band plays on its own
self styled blend of bass, ban
tone, tenor altos and soprano
marimbas.
The interlocking rhythms
and melodies are combined
with a polyrhythmic beat pro
vided by small gourd rattles
called hosho
The group performs original
arrangements of high energy
dance music from Africa, Lai
in America and the Caribbean
Jim Kuoni_
Jim Kuoni, an appealing
folk artist. Involves his audi
ences with a blend of music
ranging from his own original
songs and stories to unac
companied traditional ballads
In January of 1987, Kuoni re
leased his debut album, which
includes his award winning
song 'Ring the Bell Kuoni is
Unstuck in Time
Unstuck in Time, a brass
and woodwind quartet with a
post-modern attitude, appro
priates elements of iazz. etas
sical and folk music of the
world to create a unique musi
cal experience.
The group has recently ap
peared at Seattle's Intiman
Playhouse, and has been fea
tured in the radio program
called "Sandy Brady's Pot
luck.”
