didates who ran for office.
"It was important that they
got their views out.” Clark
said. "Throughout the cam
paigns they all got their mes
sages out and that says a lot for
all of them.”
But for now. l>oth candidates
and their supporters were hap
py that the race “was over"
and at the large voter turnout at
the polls.
Student turnout at this year's
primary was 21 percent, an in
crease of 11 percent from last
year's spring elections. It also
was an evening to remember
for many of the candidates rec
ommended by the Greek En
dorsement ('omm i t tee.
According to both candi
dates. the victory was a result
of everyone's efforts.
"It just wasn't Scott and I.”
Clark said. "It was the people
who got our message out and
the people who came out and
voted for us."
“I can’t breathe.” exclaimed
Traci Manning, one of the cam
paign managers for
Clark Wyckoff. "It's scary but
it's only just begun!"
For Hughes and kirk, howev
er, the results of the evening
were disappointing.
"It's our intention to file
charges of campaign violations
tomorrow. ’ Hughes said.
"There’s been a lot of irregular
ities in this campaign, and we
feel that it needs to he investi
gated."
Hughes refused to elaborate
further on his comment.
The kaniewskiMcRae ticket
seemed to take the election re
sults in stride.
"We’re disappointed that the
voters chose a ticket without a
platform.” McRae said. "We
wish that there had been a run
off even if we hadn’t been in it.
"Hut it’s been a great experi
ence,” he said. "We had a
wonderful time, and we’re defi
nitely going to be involved in
student politics next year.”
Candidates continued from Page 1
Shoup (711) and Kevin Allan
(440)
Nealy said she was happy
with her finish in the IFC race.
"It just goes to who that a lot
of people care what happens on
the IFC," she said. "I feel I’ve
earned my position (among the
eight candidates).”
Neely added she expected
the general election to be a
close race, but that she saw it
as a "challenge."
"Regardless of how (the gen
eral election) turns out. I think
we're going to have a good,
well-represented IFC." she
said.
Allen also said he was
pleased with making the gener
al election cutoff, and added
that he expected his campaign
to get stronger.
"I think it's just a matter of
going out and talking with
more people," he said. "I’m
going to talk with a lot of stu
dent groups next week."
An upset Shoup, when asked
about the election, responded,
"I have nothing to say to you."
Morales and the four top fin
ishers in the one-year seat gen
eral election race will join cur
rent IFC members jack May
nard and Freddie Vilches to
form next year’s seven-member
committee.
