Skipper hopes to fill brother's
shoes, surpass javelin standard

with expectations os high as
those bestowed on freshman
javelin sensation Art Skipper
High expectations come from
the Oregon coaches, fans and.
most importantly, himself
Are these expectations de
served?
Certainly.
Do they put sometimes un
wanted pressure on the 18 year
old from Sandy?
Definitely.
Skipper began throwing the
javelin before his freshman year
of high school at the insistence
of his brother. Scott
“He taught me how to throw
the javelin, even though I
didn't really have an interest in
it." Skipper said "When 1
threw 191 feet and broke the
national record for 14 year
olds. 1 felt I should give it a
chance.”
So. Art followed his brother
through high school and on to
Oregon, where Scott graduated
