Miller coached the Hawkeyes for six seasons before moving to Oregon State in 1971. Miller said he has a lot of fond memories in his coaching career, but one incident from last season stands out among all of the accomplishments. "We’ve had a lot of nice things happen." Miller said. "The most important though was getting elected to the Nai smith Hall of Fame — that tops them all ” Miller is the only collegiate coach to ever to be named Coach of the Year in three dif ferent conferences: the Missou ri Valiev Conference (1954 and 1964): the Big Ten Conference (1968 and 1970): and the Pacif ic-10 Conference (1075 and 1981) Miller also was National Coach of the Year in 1981 and 1982. This season's squad, as well as last year's, have been de scribed as vintage Miller teams. I.ast season's squad relied on defensive pressure to post a 20-11 record and Miller's eighth NCAA Tournament ap pearance. although no starter in the line-up was over 6-foot-6.
