With buses running in all four directions of Eugene/Springfield as far north as Junction City, south as Dexter, east as McKen zie bridge and west as Veneta, students have their choice of which state parks, rivers, reser voirs, campgrounds and hot springs to visit. North: The No. 63 Coburg bus leaves the orange section down town six times a day, Monday through Friday, and goes by Armitagc State Park on the Mc Kenzie River. Armitage has pic nic tables, softball fields and overnight facilities. The ride takes 15 minutes, but to get to the park riders must walk across Interstate 5. The inbound bus stops outside the park exit. South: The No. 26 Lane Com munity College/Lowell bus leaves the brown section down town three times a day, Monday through Friday, and runs along Pearl and Amazon streets on its way out of town. The route cir cles around Jasper, alternating its direction, and stops outside Jasper Park, which is located on the water and has picnic tables and softball fields. This bus also stops by Elijah Bristow State Park, Fall Creek, "I ! There a. several campgrounds near Fall Creek — among them, Dolly Vardin campground, which will be open free of charge through December but does not have running water, and Broken Bowl, which has remained open beyond its regular season and charges S3 to $7. East: the No. 16 McKenzie Bridge bus leaves the blue sec tion downtown four times a day on weekdays and twice on Sat urdays. The bus runs along Highway 126 on the McKenzie river to Ben and Kay Dorris State Park, and to Hendricks Bridge State Park, which is located on the river. This bus also runs past the Lcaburg dam and fish hatchery, cared for by the Oregon Depart ment of Fish and Wildlife. This route also passes within seven miles of Cougar Hot Springs and ends at the McKen zie Bridge Ranger Station, five miles from Belknap Springs, a private resort with a pool heated by hot springs. To get to Cougar Hot Springs, riders should ask the driver to stop at the Cougar Reservoir junction, then hike in. To make reservations at Belknap Springs Lodge call 822-3512. Several campgrounds are available to route No. 16 riders. McKenzie Bridge campground, located next to the route's last stop, costs $4 a night. Currently there is no water or garbage ser vice. Paradise Campground, one mile from the ranger station, costs S6 to $8 a night and will stay open with full services until C'ourtety jraph1 The No. 63 Coburg bus runs Monday through Friday to Armi tage Park, an overnight campground with softball fields and picnic tables. CXt. ZO. West: The No. 34 Veneta bus leaves the red section downtown four times a day on weekdays and twice on Saturdays, alternat ing its route around Fern Ridge Reservoir. The two most fre quented spots on the reservoir are Richardson Park and Or chard Point, both of by which the bus runs. These rural buses arc equipped with bike racks and will stop anywhere along their routes — there are few official bus stops. To get back on the bus, riders need only to wave the driver down.
