"They are a huge team. We
will have to see what happens,"
Hill said. "Unless we get some
turnovers, use our half-court
trap and play aggressive man
to-man (defense), it could be a
long night."
Hill also said the Beavers
wouldn't try to full-court press
because they lack the necessary
quickness to make it effective.
But Hill may change her mind,
because the Beavers lead the
league in steals and Oregon is
ninth in turnover margin.
Oregon’s turnover rate is 4.7
times its steal rate.
Although Oregon State may
be smaller than the Ducks and
by Hill's standards slower, the
Beavers still have one of the
Pac-10's top scorers in Chelle
Flamoe.
Flamoe is the conference’s
second-leading scorer, averag
ing 20.4 points a game. She also
leads her team in steals, field
goal percentage and free throw
accuracy. On Tuesday she was
named as a first team All
America and the GTE/CoSIDA
Academic Player of the Year in
women’s college basketball.
Although Flamoe is Oregon
State's big gun. Heiny says no
new game plan will be
developed for her. “(She) is a
good shooter, but we haven’t
worked on anything specific.”
he said. “Weil have to see what
happens and adjust. 1 hope we
don’t just have to stop her.
Hopefully one plan will stop
them all and do the job.”
