American record holder Steve
Scott.
Walker and Scott have each
run more than 100 sub-four
minute miles during their
careers .
Current Duck Erie Peterson
and Dave Anderton are entered
in the 800-meter race.
Senior J.J. Birden, who com
petes for both the Oregon track
and football teams, will com
pete in the 55-meter hurdles
against a field that includes
Olympic gold medalist Roger
Kingdom and NCAA champion
Cletus Clark.
The pole vault figures to be
one of the meet’s most com
petitive events, with three of
1987’s top four Americans
entered. Top rated Earl Bell
faces a stiff challenge from ex
Webfoot Kory Tarpenning
(ranked second) and Eugene
resident Scott Davis (number
four).
The women’s lineup pro
mises to be equally competitive,
with present and former Ducks
contributing to the excitement.
In the women’s 3,000 meters.
Oregon graduate Kathy Hayes
will be matched against a field
that includes senior Annette
Hand. Hayes is the collegiate
record holder at the distance,
while Hand recently led the
Ducks to the NCAA cross coutry
team championship, finishing
fifth despite a fall.
Two current Oregon runners
will test the field in the
women’s mile. Junior Penny
Graves and sophomore Liz
Wilson, both members of the
national champion cross coun
try team, are entered against
Canadian Olympian Brit
McRoberts.
The women’s 400 meters also
should provide a chance for a
Webfoot to gain experience at
the world-class level. Eugene
resident Judi Brown-King, who
captured a silver medal in the
1984 Olympics, will be favored.
Tickets to the PNB Indoor are
available at the Athletic Depart
ment ticket office until 12 p.m.
on Friday. Costs range from $5
to $10. They also may be pur
chased at G.I. Joe’s and at the
Memorial Coliseum box office
the day of the meet.
