forcement of a truism: nobody
ever went broke under
estimating the taste, interests or
intelligence of the American
college.

the departments and institutes
of computer and information
science, biology and
microbiology, physics, solar
research, architecture,

for developing technology tools
which will benefit our world.

I do. however, have a ques
tion The Riverfront Research
Park project will be developed
in four phases. The land will be
incrementally leased to the
developer, and the University,
city and State Board of Higher
Education must review the
development upon the comple
tion of each phase before pro
ceeding to the next.
The projected timeline for the
complete project is 20 years,
about one building every two
years. The developer appears to
be quite comfortable with this
phased-in approach.
Why then, is the city plann
ing to spend close to $10
million in the first two years of
the project to develop all of the
necessary roads and other in
frastructure. includiiiK the
railroad underpass?
It appears that only about $2
million would be necessary to
support the first eight years of
the project. Building on the
north side of the railroad would
not even be considered until
around 1999.
Surely the rest of the money
could lie put to better and more
immediate use elsewhere in the
region.
