all the hotdogs and burgers you
could eat I had on my 501s and
my Spuds shirt and I was ready
for anything
Well, the Ducks kicked their
butt, so we went back coinpletly
stewed to the house. Scott jam
med on "In the Dark" and we
started to boogie down.
There she was in a sweet acid
washed denim skirt. Scott sens
ed the change In atmosphere.
and slipped on Springsteen'*
new one, "Tunnel of I,ove." Wc
held each other tight like my
first girl. Betty Lou. track in '79.
The Boss really knows how to
say the right words and before
the end of the night I knew we
were in that crazy thing called
love
This could happen anywhere.
Bruce manages to squeeze
every E-Street member to guest
star on at least one song so they
don't get jealous. Smart move
Boss This solo album shows
Bruce is obviously a talented
musician but it still can't match
what he did on the strong
"Nebraska" and he's running
out of things to sing about. The

(has Bruce ever sung about so
meone named Rainbow7).
The critics will probably love
this album because it is Bruce's
testimony to love . . of cars and
women Portland wrestling
won't get the new theme song
they were hoping for, and Betty
Lou back in Iowa will be very
cold. But all I know is. Jonathan
Kichman could kick Bruce's
candy ass any day of the week

The Red Hot Clhili Peppers
aren't the most polite band in
the world, but most of us (at
least me) aren't always the most
polite people They overflow
with sexism much like the
B e a s t i e Boys, but their
punk funk power backs them
up over the top. There isn't a lot
of originality here, but who
needs it if you 're looking to par
ty with some ugly white boys.
This is the third major release
from the Peppers and they are

finally able to capture their raw
power on vinyl with con
fidence The previous LP
"Freaky Stvley" was produced
by their mentor and wizard of it
all. Mr P-Funk (ieorge Clinton
Clinton was busy eating too
many fries and shakes and
couldn't deal with these L A
brats correctly, and a less than
desirable product was issued
"Uplift" is what any good
Poppers fan could ask for, as the
production obliterates Rick
Rubin's Cult/Beastie Boys
boredom and strives to be the
most obnoxious. They use the
oldest funk gimmicks available
with today's recording
techniques.
The Peppers explore new ter
ritories by funking with Dylan's
"Subterranean Homesick
Blues" and a southern fried
funk number. "Walkin' On
Down the Road." "Behind the
Sun" sounds like The Dead via
The Meat Puppets and the
"Organic Anti-Beat Box Band. "
I don't know about that
one. . . you tell me.
At times the Peppers are try
ing to hard to sound black and it
turns into a novelty. I don't
think your mother will like this
album much because it has a
very nasty nature
The Peppers will not be open
ing for loan Baez but they will
be playing around here soon.
A valkyrie's visage
An art exhibition featuring works by University fine arts faculty is presently being
showcased until Oct. 23 in Gallery 141 in Lawrence Hall. Pictured above is a detail
