seems to be full of experience
and talent. lohn McGloughlin.
would like to encourage anyone

"Many veteran players are gone
this year" McGloughlin said.
Rebecca Watkins feels the
same and hopes that there will
be an increase of women team
members. Rebecca, originally
from Kansas, joined a F.ugene
city league ultimate team in
1981 called the Dark Star when
she first moved here The Dark
Star team began to focus more
on collegiate players because of
the larger draw of students.
Different skill levels, ages,
and backgrounds have made
local ultimate Frisbee a colorful
and unique program. The team
will instruct and train new
members all fall and winter In
winter there tends to la* a
decline in team participation
because of the rain and bad
weather

Oregon breaks into national rankings,
individuals also cited following upset

The Oregon football team
cracked the top twenty ranks
of one national publication,
and finished just out of the
elite circle in two others
following its 29-22 upset vic
tory over 10th-ranked
Washington Oct. 3, the
Athletic Department reported
Monday.
Three members of the Duck
football team also received
recognition for their in
dividual performances in last
week’s contest.
Outside linebacker Scott
Kozak was selected as the
Honda National Scholar
Athlete of the Week. Kozak
will be featured during
halftime of Saturday's college
football game of the week on
ABC.
Quarterback Bill Musgrave
was chosen as the Pac-10
offensive player of the week
for the second time this
season, and placekicker Kirk
Dennis was similarly cited for
his special teams play.
In polls released Monday.
Oregon was ranked 19th by
the Sporting News, and 23rd
by USA Today/CNN. The
Emerald has also learned that
coach Rich Brooks' gridders
will check in at number 22 in
the Associated Press coaches'
poll to he released later today.
The ranking by the Sporting
News marks the first time
since l»»K4 that the Ducks have
cracked a national top-twenty
football poll. Sports Illustrated
had the Ducks in the 20th
position for one week after
they jumped out to a 4-0 start
in 1984 That team wound up
with a 6-5 record.
Oregon has not been ranked
by the AP since 1970. when
they were also ranked for one
week before a tie against Army
knocked them back down. The
Ducks wound up 6-4-1 that
season.
Kozak, a junior, contributed
13 assisted tackles against the
Huskies, and leads the team
with three quarterback, sacks

Musgrave earned his second
player-of-lhe-week award in
