grams are based on a point
system, giving priority tirst to
student families, followed by

University and then families
from the community at large.
Priority within each of the
three groups is based on seniori
ty. Hut because of the large stu
dent population, it is impossi
ble for "community families"
to be admitted and only a few
children of University
employees are enrolled this
year.
Priority for the Amazon Child
Center goes to tenants of
Amazon Community Housing
Because Amazon Child Care
is a cooperative program unlike
the EMI1 programs, the tuition
is cheaper but parents are ex
peeled to work live hours a
month in teaching, fund
raising. maintenance or policy
making Tuition for the pre
school programs for the EMU
centers is St 25 an hour, which
translates to Si!05 a month Tui
tion for the toddler program is
$1.75 an hour, or S290a month.
Tuition for the program for
V year-olds is St.20 in hour or
$1‘»5 a month. In addition to
tuitions, the Amazon anti (XIX!
programs are also funded by in
cidental fees
For families not admitted to
either of the programs.
Reynolds said that the
American Ked Cross is the first
place to go as a referral service.
