Theatre offers entertainment alternative
Watching an ancient movie in
a campus lecture hall isn't
everyone's idea of fun on a Fri
day night. The University
Theater (UT) is one alternative
for those who prefer the fervor
and risk of the live stage.

The UT includes both the
Robinson Theater, which seats
400. and the 100-seat Arena
Theater. Six Robinson produc
tions will be staged this year,
two each term, while between
three and five Arena plays will
be performed beginning in
winter term.
The UT kicks off its new
season October 15 with a
suspense-filled thriller titled
"Orphans," written by Lyle
Kessler. Two orphaned brothers
who live together in
Philadelphia take in a strange
new roommate who becomes
the father figure they always
wanted.
The director of "Orphans" is
Dr. Grant McKernie. speech
department chairman. He nor
mally does very large cast
shows, but finds a welcome
change in "Orphans," which
involves only three actors. "For
me, this is an opportunity to ex
plore with three actors their
process of character develop
ment," McKernie said. "It's
