The Hooters, (from led to right) Rob Hyman, Andy King, David Uosikkinen, John Tilley and
Eric Ha/.ilian. is an American band striving for success with their new album “One Way
Home. ”
work on the follow up. he said.
There was even talk of releasing
a fifth single from the album, he
added, before that the band
mainly played club and small
theatre dates on the Hast Coast
and in the Philadelphia area.
“That (touring) enlarged the
whole scope of things — when
you’re suddenly playing in
South Dakota and Washington
and California and Tex
as. . .you know, pretty different
kinds of areas where people are
still reacting to the music. It
does give you some confidence
and it also lets you know you
have a national audience." he
said.
Touring also had another im
pact on the band. Not only do
the members feel more comfor
table on stage now, but Hyman
said it affected the sounds and
styles of the new record. Some
of the songs are related directly
to the mad experience, he said.
“You know, you're on the
road for almost a year and then
you go hack to write and it's like
'OK. what's in our heads?' That
experience was so strong.
" Karla (with a K)’ is one of
those that we actually started
writing on the road,” Hyman
said, adding a lot of the songs
on the new record are "about
directions and movement and
stuff like that.”
Hyman and co-writer/singer
Eric Hazilian collaborate on the
hand's material "in the truest
sense,” Hyman said, but the
overall songwriting process is
fairly complex.
"It’s not a breakdown of
words and music or anything
like that — some people wonder
about that. We do both things
together so it's like a give and
take.
''It's just like playing
pingpong or something We
really go back and forth and
mull things over. And it really
