University student drowns; funeral today |

A University student drown
ed Sunday at Crescent I.ake.
Oregon State Police said.
Michael John klotter, 19. of
Eugene, was attempting to
swim to shore with two friends
from a small wooden boat when
he began struggling in the water
and went under. One of klot
ter's friends attempted to keep
klotter afloat but lost his grip
and klotter slipped beneath the
waters, said Sgt. Jim Hand, of
the klamath Kails branch of the
state police.
Klotter’s body was recovered
Monday morning by a search
and rescue team from the
klamath County sheriff's office.
Hand said.
The incident was reported to
the klamath County sheriff's of
ficeat 12:10 a m. and than refer
red to the state police at 12:20
a.m. Monday. Hand said.
The drowning has been ruled
accidental although alcohol was
involved in the incident. Hand
said The three had been staying
at a cabin owned by one of their
parents. The lake is located
southeast of Oakridge off State
Highway 5H.
According to the University
News Bureau. Klotter had com
pleted his freshman year at the
University. He resided at
Caswell Hall and was enrolled
as a pre-major. He was a 1‘lHti
graduate of Churchill High
School.
"He was well-liked by a lot of
people in the dorms." said
Patrick Short, a resident assis
tant in Caswell Hall during the
1980-87 school year. "He was a
very nice guy. and he got along
with everyone really well.”
"He was a quiet kind of per
son,” Short said.
According to Short, blotter
and his roommate "were the
characters of the floor yet he
wasn't very loud. He was
always very quiet, always in the
background."

REQUIREMENTS FOR AIDS PREVENTION
POSTER COMPETITION 1987
Participants arc asked to turn in a finished piece of artwork with their choice of
technique (e.g. painting, watercolor. lithograph, silkscrecn. etching, etc.) I he win
ner's design w ill be photographically reproduced lor a printed poster.
The chosen artist will he awarded S 100.00. All rights to the poster become the
property of the University of Oregon Student Health Center.
Poster si/e: The si/e of the poster is suggested to be approximately 17 1/4 by 24
inches, with the visual image being approximately 15 1/2 by 15 12 inches, with the
lettering below image using approximately 8 inches. There will be approximately a
3/4 inch border all the way around.
Lettering: The purpose of the poster is to raise awareness of AIDS and AIDS
prevention for the University of Oregon community. Lettering needs to give the
following information:

Image: Should have some relevance to AIDS awareness or AIDS prevention.
Submission requirements: The work should be fastened to a hard backing (card
board. coreboard, etc.) and covered with a removable acetate sheet. No frames or
glass, please
Deadline: The finished art is to be submitted no later than Thursday, October 8

The works w ill be judged by the Educational Sub Committee of the University of
Oregon AIDS Task Force Committee. The winner will be publicly announced by

Availability of Posters: Posters should be available for sale b\ December I.
1D87. Any proceeds from the sale of these posters w ill be donated to local organiza
tions for AIDS education.
