between Willamette and Pearl streets.
'Historic' motif to highlight Fifth Avenue

A local construction company
has begun the first of several im
provements to create a historic
theme for Kugene’s Fifth
Avenue area.
"The protect is under con
struction right now and will
continue through September,”
said Rich Weinman, communi
ty development coordinator for
the Fugene Development
Department.
"However, the lights won’t
lie installed by that time. The
lights arts on order and may be
djdayed.’’ Weinman said. The
lights will match those installed
on the downtown Broadway
Street project this summer, he
said.
Wildish Corvallis Construc
tion Co. will build on the north
side of Fifth Avenue between
Willamette and Pearl streets.
"It’s a city of Eugene
beautification project which
will cost $109,878.” according
to Sandra Gleason, public infor
mation officer for the city of
Eugene public works depart
ment The proiect was m
itiatiated by an ad hoc commit
tee for Fifth Avenue im
provements, Gleason said.
The committee is construc
ting curbs, gutters, a 10-foot
sidewalk and is going to install
landscaping, Gleason said
"The lighting and the tree wells
are planned around a historic
theme." she added.
The city will provide 13
Pagoda trees, which will be
planted later this year during
the fall planting season. Wein
man said.
