Miller

passing yardage and total
offense.
His true worth was proltably
not recognized until the middle
of his sophomore season in a
game against the then top
ranked team in the country, the
University of Washington. With
the Ducks ahead 10-7 and in
control. Miller was forced to
leave the game with a concus
sion. The Oregon offense was
not the same after that, and the
Huskies averted a major upset
with a 17-10 victory
Miller scrambled and threw
the Ducks to an exciting 6-5
season in 1085. And last season,
a dubious one in the absence of
offensive standouts Tony
Cherry and Lew Barnes, Oregon
reeled after six straight losses
and finished 5-6. But those five
wins can be directly attributed
to Miller's athletic ability and
versatility.
It is those traits in particular
that garnered this award and
prompted post game statements
like this one. from tight end
Hobby DeBisschnp. “Chris
Miller," he said after this year's
Stanford game, "is without a
doubt the best athlete I've ever
seen.”
That is a heady statement, but
it is by no moans unfounded.
Miller even briefly flirted with a
professional baseball car»*er.
playing last summer with teams
at Bellingham, Wash . and
Salinas. Calif . in the Seattle
Mariners' farm system
And when it came time to
show his stuff in front of pro
scouts. Miller played to perfec
tion in postseason all-star
games, projecting himself from
a preconceived third to fourth
round selection to the NFI.’s
elite cluh of 2fl in the first
round.
"He certainly gave Oregon
fans exciting football to watch.”
said Oregon coach Rich Brooks
when Miller was drafted, "and
he prepared himself very well
for the NKl.."
Now we just sit back and
watch

FICTION ARY
Pictionary is the rousing new board game that
is played like charades, only on paper. Instead
of acting, you and your teammates try to guess
the identities of various words by sketching
clues to each other. You don’t have to be an ar
tist to play, all that’s needed is imagination and
a fast pencil.
