University student writes, directs film

A University student has
undertaken the task of writing,
producing and directing a film
that is to be shot in the vicinity
of Lane County.
The film, titled ‘An Early
Autumn.‘ is the story of a
recently-widowed, retired
farmer who sells his farm and
moves in with his daughter and
son-in-law.
A conflict between the father
and the daughter ensues, one
denying the death and the other
running from it. However,
through the innocence of the
granddaughter the family gains
strength to cope with their
situation. University student
|on Anderson said.
Anderson, a senior telecom
munications and film major,
came up with the idea for the
film a couple of years ago. And
in April of this year he started to
coordinate the final version.
Several grief support agencies
and churches have already ex
pressed intents! in the half-hour
film, and Anderson hopes to
find a distributor for the film.
He also plans to enter it in film
contests, he said.
Next week Anderson will be
interviewing the 40 to 50 people
who have applied to work on
the film crew, and on |une
27-28 the auditions for the four
main characters will be held.
Anderson is looking for peo
ple who have some educational
background, and possibly some
practical experience in films to
work on the technical crew.

open to anyone who fits the
description. Anderson said.

ing sought from friends,
relatives, community organiza
tions and local businesses. The
film's price tag will cover the
costs of the raw materials and
the post-production facilities.

The characters being auditioned
for are: a grandfather, around
the age of 60; a woman, 25-35; a
man. 25-40; and a girl, five to
six.
Anderson describes the film
as an "inspirational story" that
he hopes will touch its audience
in a emotional way, he said.
Anderson has produced films
in the past, starting with a year
long project he worked on in
high school, because of his
background with films, Ander
son was able to take production
c lasses in his freshman year at
the University, instead of
waiting for his junior or senior
year.
‘An Karly Autumn' is a com
pletely independent film that
Anderson is producing through
writing, brainstorming, coor
dinating the props and the war
drobe and going over the
necessary paper work are the
tasks that have taken the most
time, Anderson and his wife
and assistant. Marci, said.
The actual shoot will take five
days, starting on August 10.
The visual script of the film is
already completed.
At the moment the Andersons
are working on the film’s
dialogue, which they expect to
complete next month. Ander
son decided to hold off on
writing the dialogue until he
had talked to a local grief
counselor in order to get
pointers for the script, he said.
The film is expected to be
ready for viewing by fall term.

that notion nonsense.
John Mosely. University vice
president for research, said the
legislation may even enhance
the state's chances to attract the
project since most of the
theoretical scientists who
would be involved with the pro
ject oppose any sort of classified
research.
In fact. Mosely said, the same
body of scientists that would l>e
involved in work with the super
collider are the ones responsible
for the nationwide petition urg
ing scientists to refuse to work
on the Strategic Defense
Initiative.
No other project like this
around the country has ever
been classified, he said.
Kudy llwa of the theoretical
sciences department agreed,
saying that the type of work that
will be done is purely
theoretical in nature and would
have no forseeable military
applications.
